We would like to confirm with you that Australian citizens still need Visa to enter Vietnam. Hence, in case you want to go out of the airport, you need Visa t0 pass through the Immigration dept at the airport.

In case you just take a layover there, you do not need Visa.

If you want to go out of the airport, please apply Visa on arrival with us by filling your information out at: vietnam-evisa.org/apply-visa.html
