I am booked to fly into SGN airport HCMC March 31 PM then fly on to Bangkok April 2nd. I return April 11 PM and fly back to the USA early April 13th. So I have two very short transit days to see HCMC. Do I need a visa? what type of tourist visa? costs? and can I get one upon arrival?

You can apply for 1-month multiple entry Tourist Visa here https://www.vietnam-evisa.org/apply-visa.html. After receiving your application form, we will process your Visa and send you the Visa approval letter which is issued by The Vietnamese Immigration Department via your email within 2 working days. Then, you use this Visa letter to get Visa stamp at the airport when you arrive.
The Visa fee is 24USD/person and the stamping fee is 50USD/person.
