stopover of 17hrs in HCMC Thursday 16th of June 2016

Hi there,
I am finding it almost impossible to get a straight answer to a very simple question.
DO I NEED A VISA FOR A 17HRS TRANSIT IN HCMCON WAY TO PARIS WITH VIETNAM AIRLINES/AIR FRANCE ?. I have booked a hotel in district 1 to rest for a few hours and would have to cancel the booking if in need of such a visa as the cost for less than 1 day appears enormous.
