Hello I’m flying from Thailand into Vietnam for 5 days visit
I have valid Irish passport
Do I need a visa before I fly into Vietnam or can I apply in the airport in Vietnam?
Or do I apply in person to Vietnam embassy in Bangkok ?

You need to apply before your itinerary here https://www.vietnam-evisa.org/apply-visa/login.html. After filling your information online and pay online successfully, We will process visa and send you the approval letter which is used to get visa on arrival
If you apply online with us, no need to go to Viet Nam Embassy in Bangkok
