Hanoi, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City have proudly secured spots on the prestigious list of the globe's top 100 cities for pedestrian exploration, as unveiled by British tour operator GuruWalk. In this esteemed ranking, Hanoi claimed the 42nd position, while the historic port town of Hoi An followed closely at 87th, and Ho Chi Minh City landed at 99th.

The list was based on booking and search data for 800 cities across 120 countries via the GuruWalk website between April 2023 and April 2024. To compile the list, the company, which specializes in offering free walking tours worldwide, compared the number of bookings and page visits per destination.

Hanoi, renowned for its rich history, captivating French colonial architecture, and bustling markets, presents a tapestry of experiences easily accessible by foot. Visitors can immerse themselves in the grandeur of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, delve into the serenity of the Temple of Literature, or meander along the iconic Long Bien Bridge.

While Hoi An enchants with its enchanting old town adorned with vibrant lanterns and bespoke architectural wonders, Ho Chi Minh City offers a dynamic blend of French colonial landmarks, modern skyscrapers, and poignant historical sites like the War Remnants Museum—all beckoning exploration on foot.

Despite the accolades, both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as Vietnam's bustling metropolises, grapple with challenges of pedestrian accessibility, with concerns raised by locals and tourists alike regarding limited walking spaces due to encroachments by vehicles and vendors.

GuruWalk's rankings crowned Rome as the world's premier walking city, closely trailed by the enchanting streets of Budapest and the vibrant boulevards of Barcelona. As Hanoi, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City continue to captivate travelers with their pedestrian-friendly charms, they solidify their status as must-visit destinations for those eager to explore the world on foot.
