Departure Procedure at Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN)
This guide outlines the official procedures for international departures from Terminal 2 at Tan Son Nhat Airport (SGN). Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport a minimum of three hours prior to their scheduled departure time.

Step 1: Check-In and Baggage Drop
This step is to locate your airline's designated counter to complete check-in formalities and submit checked baggage.
What to do:
• After you have arrived at the airport, proceed to the main Departure Hall of Terminal 2.
• Find your airline's counter number on the Flight Information Display Screens (FIDS).
• Present your passport and ticket/booking to the staff and drop off checked luggage.
Note: After receiving your boarding pass, please take a moment to verify that the gate number and boarding time are correct.
Step 2: Departure Immigration
You need to complete the mandatory immigration formalities required for exiting Vietnam.
What to do:
• Follow the directional signage to the Departure Immigration zone.
• Queue and wait for an available officer.
• Present your passport and boarding pass to be stamped for departure.
Note: Expect longer queues during peak hours, particularly in the afternoons and on weekends.
Step 3: Security Check
This step intends you to undergo the required security inspection of your person and carry-on luggage.
What to do:
• Place bags, outerwear (jackets/hats), and shoes in trays for the X-ray.
• Empty your pockets of all items (phones, keys) into a tray.
• Place liquids (in containers of 100ml or less) in a separate tray.
• Walk through the metal detector as directed.
Note: Liquids in containers larger than 100ml are not permitted in carry-on luggage.
Step 4: Customs
Declare with an officer if you have specified goods or currencies and process any applicable tax refunds.
What to do:
• Declararion: report to an officer if carrying over $5,000 USD or 15,000,000 VND.
• VAT refund: present your passport, receipts, and the purchased items to an officer.
Note: Most travelers can proceed without stopping. If unsure, ask a customs officer.
Step 5: Proceed to Boarding
This step is to locate your assigned departure gate and await the boarding process.
What to do:
• Confirm the gate number on your boarding pass and the nearest FID screen.
• Follow the signs to your gate and present your documents to airline staff for boarding.
Note: Arrive at your gate at least 45 minutes before departure to ensure you are present for boarding calls.
