Autumn White Plateau Festival 2023: A Celebration of Culture and Nature in Bac Ha

In August, September and October, 2023, Bac Ha District (Lao Cai Province) will organise the Autumn White Plateau Festival with the theme "Autumn colours in the Plateau". The festival is a meeting place for domestic and international visitors to enjoy the poetic scenery.

Bac Ha, a district in the northwestern province of Lao Cai, is known for its stunning scenery, diverse ethnic cultures, and delicious food. Every year, Bac Ha hosts the Autumn White Plateau Festival, a celebration of the region's unique charms.

The festival takes place in August, September, and October, when the hills and valleys of Bac Ha are awash in shades of red, orange, and yellow. The festival features a variety of cultural and sporting events, including traditional dances, music performances, handicraft demonstrations, and sporting competitions. 

Another popular event is the Bac Ha Green Rice Festival, which celebrates the region's famous green rice. The festival features demonstrations of traditional rice-making techniques, as well as competitions for the best green rice dishes. 

Here are some of the specific activities that will take place during the festival:

- Festival of the Army of Trung Do Temple and the opening of the Autumn Festival in 2023: This festival will be held on August 25-26, 2023 at the National Historical and Cultural Relic of Trung Do Temple, Trung Do village, Bao Nhai commune. It will feature a variety of cultural, artistic, and sports activities, such as traditional dances, music performances, handicraft demonstrations, and a horse race.

- Ceremony to announce the Vietnamese heritage tree (the ancient Shan Tuyet tea population): This ceremony will take place on September 2, 2023 in Hoang Thu Pho commune. The Shan Tuyet tea population is a unique tea tree species that is found in Bac Ha. The ceremony will recognize the tree's cultural and historical significance.

- 2nd Bac Ha general sport tourism tournament: This tournament will take place from September 1-2, 2023 in Bac Ha District. It will feature a variety of sporting events, such as a marathon, a triathlon, and a kayaking race.

Green rice festival with the name "Savour of Plateau green rice": This festival will be held on September 23-24, 2023 at the 2-storey building of Bac Ha Cultural Market. It will feature demonstrations of traditional green rice-making techniques, as well as competitions for the best green rice dishes.

- Full moon festival: This festival will be held on September 29, 2023 (the 15th day of the 8th lunar month). It will feature a light procession on the roads in Bac Ha town and a beautiful tray contest between the teams.
