International visitors to Vietnam in May continue to increase

Information from the General Statistics Office shows that international visitors to Vietnam in May 2022 increased by 70.6% over the previous month and 12.8 times over the same period in 2021.

In general, in the 5 months of 2022, international visitors to our country increased 4.5 times compared to the same period in 2021 but still decreased by 95% compared to the same period in 2019 - the year there was no COVID-19 epidemic.

Of the total number of international visitors to Vietnam in 5 months of 2022, visitors coming by air accounted for 87.8%, 6.3 times higher than the same period last year; road by 47%; by sea down by 50.8%...

Revenue from accommodation and food services in the five months of 2022 increased by 15.7% over the same period last year when the demand of the people increased. In addition, the Sea Games 31 series of events helped the tourism industry's revenue in May 2022 increase by 69.3% over the same period last year.

Tourism revenue in the past 5 months also increased by 34.7% over the same period last year due to the strong recovery of tourism activities, the 31st SEA Games event attracted many international delegations to Vietnam.

Vietnam is the country with the highest score increase in the world (+4.7%). In terms of ranking, Vietnam's tourism increased by 8 places compared to 2019 (the ranking results in 2019 have also been calculated and adjusted according to the Development Capacity Index).

Along with Vietnam, Indonesia (up 12 places) and Saudi Arabia (up 10 places), are the 3 countries with the highest increase in tourism development capacity index.
